Murphy was born to Joseph and Mary Kotrous Komarek on July 16, 1895, at Geneva, and passed away November 1, 1990, at the Warren Memorial Manor in Friend, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 17 days. She was one of eight children in the family. As a young girl, she attended rural schools in Fillmore County, and later helped her mother in the home with her younger brothers and sisters. She was united in marriage to Francis (Frank) Michael Murphy on February 19, 1917, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva. They lived on a farm south of Geneva, the first two years of their marriage. They moved to the Murphy family farm south of Exeter in 1920. They continued to farm at this location until their retirement in 1960, when they moved to their home in Exeter. To this union was born five children; Madeline Helen, Francis DeVere, Patrick Joseph, Marilyn Marie and Catherine Janet. Helen was a member of the St. Stephen's Catholic Church, St. Stephen's Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary, William Sullivan Post 219 of Exeter. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her life centered around her family, her home and her church. Her grandchildren were a special joy in her life. She enjoyed her garden, her flowers and was a most avid reader. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, one sister and three grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Madeline (Mrs. Lynn) Landgren of Papillion, Dr. Francis of Lincoln, Patrick of Lincoln, Marilyn (Mrs. Thomas) Manning of Fairmont and Janet McAuley of Wantagh, NY; one sister, Kathryn Chaput of O'Neill; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter on Monday, November 5, with Father John Kelly officiating. Mrs. Henrietta Harre accompanied Mrs. Jane Petersen as soloist, who sang "Ave Maria," "On This Day," "Prayer for Peace" and "On Eagles Wings." Those serving as pallbearers were George Landgren, Doug Murphy, Thomas D. Manning, Patrick J. Murphy, Michael Murphy, Kurt Murphy, Chris Manning, Mark Manning, Michael Korsakas, Dan Murphy, Kent Manning and Matt Manning. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal November 8th, 1990 page 18. Daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kotrous) Komarek. Wife of Francis (Frank) Michael Murphy. They were married on February 19, 1917.
