Description	:	Helen C. Madsen, 92, of Vermillion, SD went to heaven on December 23, 2014 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital, after a brief illness. Helen Claire Yakabowsky was born July 7, 1922 in Sioux City, IA to Kasmir and Pauline Yakabowsky, polish immigrants, and she had three brothers. She attended school in Sioux City and worked at the meat packing plant during the war. She married Wilmer Madsen on February 5, 1944 and moved to rural Vermillion to be a farmer’s wife. Helen Claire Yakabowsky was born July 7, 1922 in Sioux City, IA to Kasmir and Pauline Yakabowsky, polish immigrants, and she had three brothers. She attended school in Sioux City and worked at the meat packing plant during the war. She married Wilmer Madsen on February 5, 1944 and moved to rural Vermillion to be a farmer’s wife. Wilmer and Helen farmed on the Bluff Road for their 34 years of married life. After raising her family, Helen returned to work as the Bookkeeper at Jacobsen’s Bakery in Vermillion. After Wilmer’s death in 1978, Helen moved to Mitchell, SD and worked as the bookkeeper for her daughter and son in laws business for many years. In 2004, Helen returned to Vermillion and lived in the Vermillion Assisted Living and the Wakonda Heritage manor Avera in Wakonda, SD. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wilmer and Helen loved camping and their many trips to the Black Hills. She loved tending to her flowers and yard and won the “Yard of The Month” in Mitchell. In her later years she became an avid bingo player. She is survived by her son Ron (Kathy) Madsen of Volin, SD, daughter Kathy (Steve) Feeldy of Mitchell, grandchildren: Sheri (Alan) Ouellette of Vermillion, Bob (Tami) Madsen of Volin, Melissa (Daniel) Durkee of Golden, CO, Chad (Corinna) Feeldy of Sioux Falls, SD and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 27 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Agnes Catholic Church or their charities. Courtesy of Hansen Funeral Home
