Barker Died Friday Afternoon Was Born in Middletown and Resided Here Since Her Marriage 52 Years Ago Mrs. Helen E. (Peckham) Barker, widow of Dr. Christopher F. Barker, died at her home on Bull Street shortly after noon Friday, after a long illness. She was born in 1850 in Middletown, a daughter of John and Hannah (Barker) Peckham, and had made her home in Newport since her marriage, 52 years ago. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and had been interested in various musical organizations, a member of the Current Topics Club, the Civic League, The Philharmonic Society and the Women's Aid Association of the Newport Hospital. Her husband who was for many years a member of the School Committee and a practicing physician here for 40 years, died November 28, 1922 and she is survived by a son, Dr. Williston W. Barker of Boston; a daughter, Miss Eleanor Barker, librarian of the Rogers High School and four grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen E. Barker, widow of Dr. Christopher F Barker, were held Sunday afternoon at her late residence on Bull Street. Rev. Fred B. Ford pastor of the Second Baptist Church officiated. Among the many present were members of the Newport School committee of which Dr. Barker was chairman for many years and representatives of the Newport Medical Society of which he was president. The burial was in the family plot in the Island Cemetery.
