Barker Dies in Dorchester, was 64 Son of Late Newport Physician Was Graduate of Rogers High School Dr. Williston Wright Barker, 64, of Dorchester, Mass., son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Christopher F. Barker of this city and a descendant of James Barker one of the early settlers of Newport, died early Tuesday morning at his home, after a long illness. He was born in New York City, March 5, 1882. He received his early education in the city, where his father was one of the leading medical practitioners, and for many years a member and chairman for 11 years of the School Committee. He was graduated from Rogers High School in 1898 and from Brown University in 1902 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Following his father into the medical profession, he attended Harvard Medical School, received his degree in 1904, cum laud, and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He interned in the Massachusetts General Hospital and practiced medicine in Boston and Dorchester. He married Miss Gertrude Sherman, daughter of Dr. James Sherman, also of an old Rhode Island family, who survives. He also leaves three children, James Sherman Barker of Nashua, N.H., Robinson F. Barker of Nashville, Tenn., and Miss Cynthia Barker of Dorchester, who served with the WAVES during the war. Besides he leaves four grandchildren and a sister Miss Eleanor Barker of this city, Librarian of Rogers High School. Another son, Lieutenant George L. Barker, U.S.A. was killed accidentally in 1944. Dr. Barker was a member of the American Medical Association, the Norfolk District Medical Society, Dorchester Medical Club, New England Pediatric Society, Tuberculosis Division of the Boston Health Department. He was physician in charge of St. Monica's Home for sick colored women, a member of the staff of Evangeline Booth Hospital and was for some years instructor of pediatrics at Tufts Medical College.
