Funeral services wre held Thursday, February 4, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. Born October 31, 1930, in Cushing, Iowa, Helen Irene Fundermann was the daughter of Elvin and Maymie (Rohwedder) Putzier. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On February 22, 1948, Helen married John W. Fundermann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, Iowa. The couple lived in Anthon until 1965, then made their home in Battle Creek. Helen and "her Johnnie" had 53 wonderful years together until John passed away in January of 2002. Over the years, Helen cooked in a restaurant, cleaned at Hartley Memorial Hospital and provided child care for many area families. She enjoyed gardening and canning and had many happy memories camping and fishing with her family. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, hunting, and playing marbles/Aggravation. Survivors include five children, Mary Ellen "Boots" (Jeri) Goodman of Battle Creek, Kathy (Butch) Williams of Sedalia, MO, John E. (Kate) Fundermann, Jr. of Battle Creek, Steve Fundermann of Cherokee, and Cindy (Steve) Stoos of Kimballton; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren with one on the way. Other survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Livermore Fisher of Lynchburg, MO, and Marlene "Tootie" (Ed) Lapko of North Edwards, CA; and two brothers, Franklin (Bonnie) Putzier, and Fritz (Sis) Putzier, all of Anthon. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Hank Putzier; a granddaughter, Brandi; and a great-granddaughter, Hope.
