Description	:	Helen Irene Mathias, 89, of Richland, went to be with the Lord at 11:08pm Dec. 8, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was born in Bloomfield May 11, 1921, the daughter of Kost Wright and Lucy Irene Benge Daugherty. Helen grew up in the Bloomfield area, attending Bloomfield schools. She married Mearl Mathias in Missouri on Sept. 27, 1941. They farmed in the Tipton area for a few years before moving to the Richland area, where she continued to help her husband farm. She was born in Bloomfield May 11, 1921, the daughter of Kost Wright and Lucy Irene Benge Daugherty. Helen grew up in the Bloomfield area, attending Bloomfield schools. She married Mearl Mathias in Missouri on Sept. 27, 1941. They farmed in the Tipton area for a few years before moving to the Richland area, where she continued to help her husband farm. Helen attended the Woolson Friends Church and belonged to several local clubs including the I95 Club, Woolson Clover Leaf Club and the Woolson Missionary Society. She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Mathias and Cynthia(Phil)Sylvester, both of Richland; four sons, Dennis(Connie)Mathias of Amarillo, Texas, Phillip(Marcia)Mathias of Ottumwa, Roger Mathias and Daren(Peg)Mathias, both of Richland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ilene Hillhouse of Iowa City and Thelma Covert of Ottumwa; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mearl; two sons, Marland and Dwight; five brothers, Omer, Harlan, Lindell, Darrell and Charles Daughterty; and her sister Olive Henderson. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Saturday at Woolson Friends Church south of Richland with Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton. Open visitation will be 5-6pm this evening at Gould Funeral Home in Richland. Visitation with the family will be Saturday morning 9:30-10:30am immediately preceding the service. Memorials to Woolson Friends Church or Hospice of Washington County.
