Bingham was born November 3, 1913, in Burdette Township, Hand County, South Dakota, to George and Mary (Kenyon) Bingham. She grew up in Hand County and Benson, Minnesota. Hansen, age 93, of Huron, and formerly of Wolsey, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Helen L. Bingham was born November 3, 1913, in Burdette Township, Hand County, South Dakota, to George and Mary (Kenyon) Bingham. She grew up in Hand County and Benson, Minnesota. The family then moved to the Bonilla area, where she graduated from Bonilla High School in 1931. On February 23, 1932, she married Ben Hansen at Huron. They farmed near Bonilla, and then in Brown County and Hand County until 1937. At that time, they moved to Oregon where Ben worked in the lumber industry. In 1943 they returned to Wolsey and farmed southwest of town until they retired in 1978. She was a very active partner in the farming operation. Helen was a member of the Wolsey Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Women, and bible study. She was also a member of the Social Sisters, the Wolsey Gals Craft Club, the Huron Area Senior Center, and the Fun Steppers Dance Club. She liked to dance and had still been attending Senior Citizen dances. Helen enjoyed gardening and had big vegetable gardens and beautiful flower gardens on their farm. She was a seamstress and had made her own clothing when she was in school. She sewed numerous articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren. In addition, she knitted and had made countless dishcloths and potholders. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; her children, Max Hansen, Jim Hansen, and Marvella Chambers; one granddaughter, Mary Ann; five brothers, and one sister. She is survived by fifteen grandchildren, Laurie (Kerry) Nelson, of Britton, Lisa Hansen, of Huron, David Hansen, of Huron, Terry (Stephanie) Smith, of Lusk, Wyoming, Christine (Jonathon) Porter, of Gillette, Wyoming, Jamee Hansen, of Lusk, Wyoming, Teri Ningen, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Deanna (Allen) Mardian, of Boise, Idaho, Karen (Michael) Ricketts, of Phoenix, Arizona, Judy Hansen, of Aurora, Colorado, Martin (Josephine) Hansen, of Mira Loma, California, Scott Hansen, of Boise, Idaho, Autumn Hansen, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Amy (George) Emery, of Black Hawk, and John (Peggy) Chambers, of Black Hawk; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Jo Ann Hansen, of Deadwood, Pamela Hansen, of Lusk, Wyoming; and one son-in-law, Doug Chambers, of Rapid City. Her funeral service was Monday, January 15, at the Wolsey Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kuhler Funeral Home.
