Description	:	Helen Hargis age 97 of New Sharon, Iowa went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday evening at her home in New Sharon. Burial in the Union Mills Cemetery south east of the Union Mills Christian Church. Helen May McMains was the daughter of Orin Andrew and Amy Elizabeth Loving McMains. She graduated from the 8th grade at Darland Country School, later receiving her GED. She was married to Caleb Elisha Hargis on February 27, 1941 in Mahaska County. To this union five children were born, Elaine, Terry, James, Melanie and Caleb E II. She graduated from the 8th grade at Darland Country School, later receiving her GED. She was married to Caleb Elisha Hargis on February 27, 1941 in Mahaska County. To this union five children were born, Elaine, Terry, James, Melanie and Caleb E II. Helen was a homemaker and a wonderful farm wife that took care of her family. Once their children were a little older, Helen worked as a nurse's aide for a few years before working as a dental assistant for Dr. Gary Coleman in New Sharon. Helen was a very caring person and enjoyed helping others. Gentle in spirit and full of grace are some of the qualities that endeared her to so many. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved preparing Sunday dinners for her family. She was known for her delicious, beautiful pies. Helen also enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, traveling and fishing with her husband, Caleb. At the age of 18, Helen was baptized and became a long-standing member of the Union Mills Christian Church, where she served in various positions, including Board Secretary, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and Elder. She was a long-time member of the Christian Women Fellowship and their farming community neighborhood MPH Club.
