Description	:	Big Timber Pioneer, July 4, 1979 Helen Nicholson, 86, formerly of Big Timber passed away Thursday at Sherwood Terrace Nursing center in Tacoma, Wash. Helen Nicholson was born Jan. 17, 1893 at Grant Township, Wisc., a daughter of Lars and Jennie Omtvedt, and was the youngest of 7 children who all preceded her in death. Read More	Big Timber Pioneer, July 4, 1979 Helen Nicholson, 86, formerly of Big Timber passed away Thursday at Sherwood Terrace Nursing center in Tacoma, Wash. Helen Nicholson was born Jan. 17, 1893 at Grant Township, Wisc., a daughter of Lars and Jennie Omtvedt, and was the youngest of 7 children who all preceded her in death. She attended Dunn County Teaching College and graduated in 1911. She taught school for one year at McLeod and another year at Fromberg. On Aug. 16, 1916, she married Charles C. Nicholson of McLeod and they were engaged in ranching there until 1929 when they bought a ranch on Lower Sweet Grass in the Howie area. Charles C. Nicholson preceded in death in April of 1949 when he was at that time Postmaster in Big Timber. One son, Dick preceded her in death in 1961. Mrs. Nicholson left Big Timber in 1950 and was a house-mother at Pacific Lutheran University at Parkland for 13 years, retiring in 1963. She was a member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church, former superintendent of Sunday School there, active in youth church work, and Women of the Church. She was past president of the Big Timber Woman's Club. She was a member of and active in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland, Wash. She loved working in her flower garden and working in her church especially with the young people. She is survived by one son, A. Donald Nicholson of West Redding, Conn., two daughters Mrs. Henry (Jeanne) Elgen of Big Timber and Mrs. Gerald (Marian) Cashen of Parkland, Wash.; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews in Wisconsin. Funeral services were held Sat. , June 30, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland, Wash. There was a brief memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Monday from the Lowry Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Nilsen of the Big Timber Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Bog Timber. Casket Bearers were Wright Ewan, A; Mehus, Karl Bryan, Tom Lomeland, Max Officer, and Bill Thornby. Music selection was "How Great Thou Art". Contributor: Julia Kinsey (48922386) •
