Description	:	Helen Berndt Larsen was born in Holstein, Nebr., March 20, 1902 to Fred Christian and Alvina Agnes (Jacobitz) Berndt. When Helen was 1 1/2 years old, her family moved to Minden, where she grew up and graduated from Minden High School. After graduation she taught in Holstein, the rural Minden area and Wilber, Nebr. When Helen was 1 1/2 years old, her family moved to Minden, where she grew up and graduated from Minden High School. After graduation she taught in Holstein, the rural Minden area and Wilber, Nebr. On June 16, 1935, Helen married Edgar H Larsen. They had three daughters. Helen continued her teaching career with Adult Education classes in Lincoln. She taught in Bellevue, Avery, and Riverview schools in Nebraska and was involved in teaching and administration in District 66 in the Omaha area until her retirement in 1967. Helen earned her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Omaha on August, 31 1961. The love of Helen's life had been the moments she spent with children - those in her schools and in her family. She took the family on excursions through life that will always be remembered. Her creative guidance in the worlds of rocks, shells, animals, plants and music is still becoming real to all of her children. Most of all she taught them how to be good human beings, with their faith becoming strong through her. She was loved, and still is. Helen died March 21, 1989 at the Long Term Care facility of Kearney County Community Hospital, which she made her home since returning in Minden in 1984. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; her brother, August Berndt; four sisters, Hattie Braun, Caroline Werth, Frieda Bang and Lydia Alsid. She is survived by three daughters; Joan Daniell of Minden, Nebr., Judith Wright of Omaha, Nebr., and Janet Haile of Henderson, Arkansas; and one sister, Evelyn Otteson of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Her funeral was at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on March 25, 1989 at 10:00 am with the Reverend John MacIntosh officiating. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Long Term Care Resident Activities Program at the Kearney County Community Hospital in Minden. Godberson Mortuaries of Kearney was in charge of cremation.
