He was 82 years and eight months of age at the time of his death. August F Berndt, son of Fred and Alvina Jacobitz Berndt, was born Feb 1, 1885 in Adams County near Kenesaw. He was baptized, confirmed and received his initial schooling in an Adams County parochial school Mr Berndt worked as an apprentice under the supervision of doctors and with the help of correspondence courses from Northwestern College of Pharmacy, he graduated from Creighton College of Pharmacy at Omaha. He moved to Minden in 1907 after passing his Nebraska State Board examination. He was united in marriage to Emma Schaper on Aug 23, 1911 and to this union two children were born. Mr Berndt was an active member of the St Paul Lutheran church, had served on the Board of Education, the City Council, was a past member of the Minden Fire Department, past president of the Rotary Club and had been president of the District Pharmaceutical Association. He had been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and was always very much interested in civic affairs. His side interest was his church and his hobby was agriculture. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Imogene. Survivors include his wife, his son, Don, Sr., four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, six sisters, Mrs Lou (Hattie) Braun, Huron, SD., Mrs Hal B (Lydia) Alsid, Omak, Wash., Mrs Fred (Evelyn) Otteson, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs Edgar (Helen) Larsen, Waterloo, Mrs Carolyn Werth and Mrs Bill (Freida) Bang, and many other relatives and a great many friends. Funeral services were held at the St Paul Lutheran Church Friday afternoon, Nov 3 with Rev Henry Pralle, officiating. Interment was in the Minden Cemetery with the Layton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
