Elwood was born in Gage County, Neb. September 4, 1871. She lived her entire lifetime in this same vicinity and passed away at her home in Beatrice, on January 7, 1945 at the age of 73 years four months and three days. On December 24, 1887 she was united in marriage to Warren Grant Elwood of Beatrice. To this union three children were born, two of whom survive her, Harry having died in 1906. Her husband preceded her in death in February, 1940. Throughout her life she has been active in the church. For more than a score of years she taught in the Sunday school of the United Brethren chuch of Beatrice. On July 7, 1938 she transferred her membership to the First Christian church and has continued her love and loyalty to the church. She is survived by two children: Mrs. Tom Currey and W. E. Elwood, both of Beatrice; one brother, Fay Shottenkirk of Lincoln; six grandchildren: Mrs. Hazel Jackson, Los Angeles, Raymond Elwood, Bay City, Mich., Mrs. Maxine Ewing, Los Angeles, Mrs. Vera Hainen, Beatrice, Bessie Elwood, Seattle, Wash., Harry Elwood, Beatrice; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the First Christian church on January 11, by Rev. Wayne Greene. Interment was made in Evergreen Home cemetery.
