Helena Tobiason died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a sudden illness. Survivors include two sons, Dean of Beaverton, Ore., and Richard of Troy, Mich.; two grandchildren, Kathy Waverly and Mark Tobiason, both of Beaverton, Ore.; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hilda (Clarence) Stulken of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Martin and Fred; and four sisters, Hannah, Christine, Freida and Emma. Helena Marie Geyken was born April 11, 1903, in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, the daughter of Martin and Marie Tapken Geyken. She received her early education in the rural schools of Castle Grove Township. She later attended the Monticello Community Schools and Cedar Rapids Business College. She taught for several years in the rural schools of Castle Grove. On June 16, 1926, Helena M. Geyken married Tobias F. Tobiason. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids for several years. They purchased a farm in Benton County near Atkins in 1930 and farmed there until retirement in 1970. They then moved to Monticello. Her husband preceded her in death on April 15, 1985, She moved to the Senior Home in the spring of 1994.
