He was born March 21, 1886 at Papenburg, Germany, the son of Martin and Christine Von Deest Geyken. He was married to Marie Tapken, May 27, 1892 at Asel, Germany. They came to the U.S. and settled in Jones county, having lived on a farm west of Monticello. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran church. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 22, 1962, a son Martin, an infant daughter, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include seven children,Mrs. John (Johannah) Brinkman of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Cecil (Christine) Edwards of El Monte, Calif.; Mrs. W. H. (Frieda) Ahlrichs of Monticello, Mrs. Tobe (Helena) Tobiason of Atkins, Mrs. Tobe (Emma) Caspers, Fred Geyken and Mrs. Clarence (Hilda) Stuhlken, all of Monticello. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
