Word was received here Sunday of the death of Mrs. Henrietta Allwardt in Silver City, N.M., where she had been taken by her husband, Oliver H. Allwardt, several months ago, for the benefit of her health. Mrs. Allwardt was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Marshall. She was born in Chico twenty-five years ago. Previous to her marriage to Allwardt, who formerly was desk sergeant of the local police force, Mrs. Allwardt was assistant tax collector. She later became assistant secretary of the Chico Business Men’s Association. She was taken ill less than a year ago. During June her husband resigned his position on the police force and they went to Silver City to reside, with the hope that the change of climate might benefit her. Her father was called to her bedside Friday night. It is believed that he did not reach Silver City before her death. The news of her death came as a shock to the various officers in the Municipal building. Gifted with a happy disposition and a kind smile for all who met her, she made many friends there who will mourn her death. She is survived by her husband, father and mother; five sisters, Edna, Margaret, Leola, Mabel and Dorothy Marshall; and three brothers, William Marshall who is stationed at Fort Bliss with the field artillery, regular army, and Lyle and Raymond Marshall of Chico. The remains will be brought to Chico, and will arrive here Thursday. ~~~ Chico Record, Saturday Morning, September 22, 1917, pg 6 col 5: Mrs. O.H. Allwardt Is Laid to Last Rest. The funeral of Mrs. O.H. Allwardt, who died in Silver City, N.M., was held from the funeral chapel of Bicknell & Moore at 2:30 yesterday afternoon. A large number of friends and relatives of the deceased were present. The simple funeral service was conducted by Rev. Galen L. Rose. Interment was made in Chico cemetery. The pallbearers were chosen from the Chico Business Men’s Association, by which Mrs. Allwardt was employed for some time, and from among city officials having offices in the municipal building. They were: S.H. Chalmers, O.D. Taber, Jr., I.R. Morrison, J.A. Peck, R.E. Wedekind, and J.L. Barnes.
