Mr. Nannen had suffreed from ill health for a number of years, but during the past two years had again been seized with recurrent attacks and was brought to the hospital for treatment. Henry A. Nannen was born in Germany, September 11, 1876, and when a boy of our years of age, came with his parents to America and they settled in Plymouth county, where he made his home since. Mr. Nannen was twice married. He is survived by his wife and five children, Hannah Lena, Harry, Walter, Walter, and Marie, all living in the vicinity. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Lutheran church in Preston township, Rev. Theo. Meyer officiating, and the interment made in the Preston township cemetery. Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Tuesday, August 13, 1929 Le Mars, Iowa ---------------------------------------- Henry Anton Nannen The late Henry Anton Nannen was born on the 11th o September, 1876, in Shortens, Oldenburg, Germany, as the third child of his parents, John Nannen, a weaver by trade, and his wife, Frances nee Folkes. His two older sisters were Hannah, now Mrs. Fred Haage, of Preston Township, and Lena, who was married to Henry Meinen, of Preston Township, and died seven years ago. He never learned to know his mother, for she died when he was born. Thereupon the widowed father married Anna Katherine Borchers, who brought one son into the family B. Borchers of Le Mars and later gave birth to two more daughters, Anna, now Mrs. Harm Kruse, of Grant Township, and Mary, now Mrs. D. Frerichs, of Preston Township. In 1883, when Henry was six years old, the family immigrated to America and immediately settled in Preston Township, Plymouth County, where they later purchased the farm which the departed inherited from his father and farmed until his death. On March 17, 1904, he was united in marriage with Gesche Mary Frerichs, from which union three children were born, two daughters and one son. The happiness of this family was suddenly disturbed when on December 14,1904, his beloved wife was taken from his side through an accident. A little more than a year later, on February 20, 1912, he married the sister of his departed wife, Miss Elizabeth Frerichs, who tenderly and faithfully cared for the motherless children and presented him with another son and daughter. In his youth he was healthy and strong, later he contracted an ailment from which he found temporary relief through an operation in Rochester, Minn., but which weakened his health for many years. To the surprise of all, his health suddenly improved during the last year and a half, evidently without medical aid, so that he became strong and healthy and could again help with the farm work. A happy future seemed in store for him. But on the third of this month he suddenly suffered intense pain in his left side. The doctors recognized his ailmet as kidney trouble and ordered his removal to the hospital. Here his pain was indeed relieved, but medical science and care could not affect a cure. A week after his first attack, August 10 10:30 a.m., God called him home at the age of 52 years and almost 11 months. His departure is bereaved by his widow, two sons, Harry and Walter, both at home, three daughters, Hannah, the wife of Chas. Anderson, of Preston Township; Katherine, the wife of John Hillrichs, of Johnson Township; and Marie who is still at home; one granddaughter, three sistrs, one half-brother and many other relatives and friends. The funeral took place in the afternoon of August 13, 1929, in the church in which he was confirmed and held membership, the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Preston Township, Reverend Theo. Meyer officiating. In the adjoining cemetery he found his last resting place between his parents and his first wife. The unusually large attendance at his funeral gave evidence of the high regard that his cheerful disposition and congenial nature won for him in the community. May he rest in peace.
