Description	:	Henry Albert Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, was born November 29, 1890, at Walle, by Ausrich, Ostfriesland, Germany. As an infant he was baptized into the Lutheran faith on December 28, 1890. In 1906, he confirmed that faith with his own lips in the church at Rurich. Read More	Henry Albert Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, was born November 29, 1890, at Walle, by Ausrich, Ostfriesland, Germany. As an infant he was baptized into the Lutheran faith on December 28, 1890. In 1906, he confirmed that faith with his own lips in the church at Rurich. In 1911, he followed his father to America, and settled near Gothenburg, Nebraska. On April 12, 1916, he was joined in matrimony to Bertha Franzen. To this union, were born three daughters and three sons. They lived in Custer County for some time and in 1921 they moved to a farm near Freedom, Nebraska, where they lived for 15 years. In 1936, they returned again to Gothenburg, where they bought a farm in Custer County and where the family now is living. On Friday morning, Mr. Miller took his son, Gilbert to Omaha, where he visited his a doctor. On leaving Omaha their car accidently collided with a motor train and both Mr. Miller and Gilbert were instantly killed. He reached the age of 28 years, 7 months and 15 days. The date of his death was July 14, 1939. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful and loving wife, three daughters, Johanna, Henrietta and Gertrude; two sons, Arthur and Edward; two brothers, Albert Miller of Knoke, Iowa and John Miller of Delano, California; eight sisters, Mrs. John Franzen, Mrs. Anna Cyriacks, Mrs. Herman H. Franzen, Mrs, John Junker, Mrs. Jurgen Franzen and Mrs. Reakus Junker, all of Gothenburg; Mrs. William Lauer, of Cozad and Mrs. Albert Ruff of Grand Island. His parents preceded him in death, and his son, Gilbert, passed on together with his father. Mr. Miller was a very successful farmer and business man. His interests were in the church and the community. He made many friends far and near and many shall miss him as a good neighbor. He was faithful in attendance at the Lutheran Mission at Stockville, and he became a member of the Zion Lutheran church shortly after moving into this community. We shall all mourn his passing. Double funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock in the morning of Tuesday, July 18th, 1939. Reverend A. J. Duis officiated at the services. Pallbearers were: Olfman Kaiser, Roy Vogt, Louis Schwartz, Heie Janssen, Henry J. Miller, Henry Wessels. Father, Son Killed at 76th and Dodge The Saturday Evening Herald (World Herald). A grief-stricken Mother and daughter came to Omaha by train from Gothenburg, Nebraska Saturday to claim the bodies of a father and son. Henry A. Miller and Gilbert Miller were killed instantly Friday Night in an auto train crash at Seventy-Sixth Street and Dodge Streets. Mrs. Miller was at the farm home 18 miles north of Gothenburg Friday night, awaiting the return of her husband and her son, when the telephone rang, A neighbor reported she had heard over the radio that Mrs. Miller's husband and son had been killed when the auto crashed with a North Western passenger train shortly before 7 p.m. Carried 200 Yards The two men left home Friday morning. Gilbert had suffered a nervous breakdown, from overwork on the farm, his mother said she came with his father to Omaha to see a doctor. Whether the father or the son was driving as they went west on the return trip has not been determined. Family said the son has not been driving recently. Funeral In Gothenburg Mrs. Miller and her daughter, Johanna, 22, arranged to take the bodies to Gothenburg by train. Funeral services will be at Zion Lutheran Church there. Mr. Miller came to this country from Germany in 1911, had farmed since in the vicinity of Gothenburg and Cozad and had bought the section of land on which he lived. The son assisted him with the farming. Still stunned by the tragedy, Mrs. Miller was wonderful Saturday what will heppen to the farm. Her other children are not old enough to operate it. They are Johanna, Henrietta, 18; Athur, 13; Gertrude, 11; and Howard, 7. Mr. Miller is survived by eight sisters, Mrs. John Franzen, Mrs. Jurgess Franzen, Mrs. Henry Franzen, Mrs. Reakus Junker, Mrs. John Junker and Mrs. Annie Cyriacks, all of Gothenburg; Mrs. Albert Ruff, Grand Island; and Mrs. William Lauer, Cozad; and two brothers, John Miller, Delano, California, and Albert Miller, Knoke, Iowa. Car Carried 600 Feet at 76th, Dodge Two men were killed, instantly when their auto was hit by a North Western passenger train at seventy-sixth and Dodge Streets shortly before 7 o'clock last night. Drivers licenses found on the bodies were the names of Henry A. Miller, 46, and Gilbert Miller, 19, both of Gothenburg, giving rise to the belief the men may have been father and son. Their car bore a Custer County license, 4-5455. The crushed auto was carried about six hundred feet on the front of the gasoline-electric driven railroad motor car. Crushed in Wreckage The younger man, whom police believe was driving, was thrown from the car; the other was crushed inside the wreckage. The train was bound toward Omaha from Norfolk, driven by Engineer John F. Bandlow, Fremont. The auto was heading west. J. W. Campbell, operator of the nearby golf driving range, told The World Herald he witnessed the crash. "There were two autos, apparently racing each other," Campbell said. "One of them put on speed and just barely shinned by. The young fellow driving the other seemed to try to brake his car when he was about 60 feet from the tracks. It looked as if he would crash into the train, changed his mind and stepped on the gas." Engineer Slows Train Campbell said the train was traveling about 20 or 25 miles an hour. "The engineer seemed to realize the autos would have a close squeak and slowed the train to give them a chance," Campbell stated. Police, fireman and railroad crews worked for half an hour to get the wrecked car loose from the locomotive. They succeeded by chaining the auto to the rails and backing the train. Conductor of the train was H. C. Diek, 2812 Jackson Street.
