Mr. Glaessel was born Oct. 16th, 1811, in Bavaria, Germany. He came to the United States in 1847 and settled in Rockdale, N.Y. where he resided for three years. He then came to Wisconsin and located in Helenville, Jefferson County, where he lived for twenty years. On April 1st, 1872 he came to Iowa, where he resided up to the time of his death. He had eight children, six sons and two daughters. The two daughters died in Wisconsin and are buried in Helenville. Two sons are now living in California, one in Kansas, and two in Iowa. John lives in Mitchell County and Mike lives in Worth County, near his father's place. The other son's whereabouts are unknown. He had 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He had two brothers, one living in Jefferson, WI and one in Plymouth, IA. He had one sister, living in Liberty, WI. He was sick about one year with the dropsy. His funeral was the largest funeral ever in Union township.
