Description	:	Henry Clarence Dowd, son of A.C. and Louella (Smith) Dowd, was born July 1, 1887, at Chambers, Nebraska, and departed this life January 27, 1962, at the Luse nursing home in Centerville, at the age of 74 years. Clarence came to Blakesburg, Iowa, with his parents when he was seven years of age. The family moved to the Moravia vincinity in 1918 where he was engaged in farming and working for the Milwaukee Railroad. On September 5, 1921, he was united in marriage to Mina R. Callen. Read More	Henry Clarence Dowd, son of A.C. and Louella (Smith) Dowd, was born July 1, 1887, at Chambers, Nebraska, and departed this life January 27, 1962, at the Luse nursing home in Centerville, at the age of 74 years. Clarence came to Blakesburg, Iowa, with his parents when he was seven years of age. The family moved to the Moravia vincinity in 1918 where he was engaged in farming and working for the Milwaukee Railroad. On September 5, 1921, he was united in marriage to Mina R. Callen. To this union three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Dean, by one sister, Mrs. Edith Blair, and by one brother, Daniel. Left to cherish his memory are, in addition to his devoted wife, MIna; two sons, Donald and Delmar, both of Moravia; five sisters. Mrs. Ethel Gardner of Grandview, Washington; Mrs. Vern Miller of Ottumwa; Mrs. Daisy Donahoo of Richland, Washington; Mrs. Hazel Berg of Madrid, Iowa; and Mrs. Helen Conger of Ottumwa. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Clarence was converted in 1920, and was united with Grace Methodist Church in Moravia. He was a life member of Class 9. He served his church faithfully as a member of the official board for many years. Even though failing health made it difficult and painful for him to be in church, he was loyal in his attendance and was an inspiration to his minister. During his final illness, when he spent several months in the hospital and nursing home, he spoke most often of the faithfulness of his family he loved so much, and of his regret that he could not be in God's house on Sunday. For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and a shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will be withheld from them that walk upright. Psalm 84:10-11
