Description	:	Henry was born on his parents' farm east of Scribner. He spent his youth on the farm and went to the St. Peter's Lutheran parochial school in Scribner, where he was confirmed on April 5, 1903. On July 1, 1913 he and Elsie Zwicky of Fremont, NE were married. After his parents retired from farming, he remained on the farm until 1924 when he moved the family into town. For ten years he and his brother in law, A.J. Knieriem operated the garage business under the firm name of Knieriem & Cordes. Quoting the writer of the article... Quoting the writer of the article in The Scribner Rustler, dated Nov. 19, 1936:........"It was typical of Henry Cordes' own amiable personality that it has been truthfully said that he never had an enemy. Quiet and unassuming, he was content to confine his interest strictly to his own affairs and never meddled with those of others. He recognized his responsibility as a citizen by becoming a member of the volunteer fire department, and he served that organization for nine and one half years, during which time he held the office of assistant chief for a period of three years." Henry died as the result of an accident while he and his son were chopping fire wood from a tree previously felled. He was 47 years, 2 months and 11 days old. He was survived by his wife and five children.
