Description	:	"Ray was born March 9, 1919 in Scribner to Henry and Elsie 'Zwicky' Cordes. He was baptized in March of 1919 and confirmed in 1932 all at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He grew up in Scribner, attended Scribner Schools and graduated from Scribner High School in 1937. After his schooling Ray enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He began his training in San Diego then served in the South Pacific Theater during the years of 1942 to 1945. Read More	"Ray was born March 9, 1919 in Scribner to Henry and Elsie 'Zwicky' Cordes. He was baptized in March of 1919 and confirmed in 1932 all at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He grew up in Scribner, attended Scribner Schools and graduated from Scribner High School in 1937. After his schooling Ray enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He began his training in San Diego then served in the South Pacific Theater during the years of 1942 to 1945. When his service time was up, Ray returned to Scribner and with his brothers LeRoy and Carroll, owned and operated Cordes Brothers, which was a grocery, hardware, and appliances business. The family operated the store until it burned down on New Year's Eve on 1978. After the store was rebuilt, Ray worked for the new owners for a brief time. Before suffering a stroke Ray was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and baseball player. He was also a Sunday School teacher and former School Board member and president. Ray was a member of the Scribner Volunteer Fire Department and currently was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 121 of Scribner and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10535 in Hooper. After his stroke, Ray loved to garden and to deliver his produce around town. Ray was married on April 24, 1943 to Dorothy Weber. Survivors: Wife Dorothy of Scribner Daughter Patricia (husband Michael) Clader of Newcastle, CA. Son Gary (wife Sara) Cordes of Hooper Adopted Son The Rev. Charles Weber of St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren Alisa (husband Dan) Overby, Drew (wife Tammi) Clader, Ilka (husband Ken) Anderson Joey (husband Jason) Cain, Amy (husband Mike) Hagerbaumer, Jill (husband Dale) Derrell Cali Cordes and Fiancee' Jon Carlson, Brittani Cordes 18 great grandchildren Sister Marcella Lamberty of Scribner Sister-in-law â€“ Alice Stibor of Scribner And many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers LeRoy and Carroll and a sister Gertrude Heywood. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00am in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Scribner with Military Honors by Scribner Legion Post 121. The Rev. Bruce Schut will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel. The committal will be held at a later date." Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, Nebraska.
