Description	:	Henry grew up in Vermillion, S.D. For several years he worked with and raced trotting or harness horses in the eastern part of the state but particularly around Tyndall and Kimball. In 1910 he moved to Newell, S.D. where the new Belle Fourche Irrigation District was located and filed a homestead claim near Owl Butte. He also accepted a job at the Henderson Pharmacy at about the same time. An old friend of his, Charlie McClung, also filed a homestead near Owl Butte. For several years he worked with and raced trotting or harness horses in the eastern part of the state but particularly around Tyndall and Kimball. In 1910 he moved to Newell, S.D. where the new Belle Fourche Irrigation District was located and filed a homestead claim near Owl Butte. He also accepted a job at the Henderson Pharmacy at about the same time. An old friend of his, Charlie McClung, also filed a homestead near Owl Butte. So the story goes, Henry borrowed Charlie's horse, Mary Pickford, to build a dam. Failing to bring the horse back, Charlie kept inquiring when the horse would be returned. Henry came to Charlie's place one day with a hide of Mary Pickford. It seems the horse wouldn't respond one day and Hank hit it over the head with a two by four, thus causing the demise of the horse. Charlie had a cabin in later years on Sand Creek and Mary Pickford maintained an honored place on the floor there for many years. On May 24, 1915, he married Birdie Anderson who had then completed 4 years teaching at the Newell Schools. She was born May 7, 1869. They continued ranching and farming on their place near Owl Butte. In 1935, they moved to a home in Newell. Henry continued his ranching operation and also was in the trucking business. He was also deputy sheriff of Butte County for a number of years. He died at his home March 6, 1943. Birdie moved then to San Francisco, California and then returned to Spearfish, SD where she died May 4, 1966. They are both buried at Pineslope Cemetery at Belle Fourche, SD.
