Description	:	Henry Gadson Griffis, 83, passed into Eternity on Saturday August 1, 2009. He was a native and life long resident of Maxville. He was born on April 26, 1926 to the late, Gadson and Fannie Padgett Griffis. He is preceded in death by his baby daughter; brothers, Leroy Griffis and Dave (Bun) Griffis; sisters, Doris Strickland and Genevieve Frigo. He was a native and life long resident of Maxville. He was born on April 26, 1926 to the late, Gadson and Fannie Padgett Griffis. He is preceded in death by his baby daughter; brothers, Leroy Griffis and Dave (Bun) Griffis; sisters, Doris Strickland and Genevieve Frigo. Henry started his first business at the age of 15 with a small grocery store in Maxville. He then along with his brother Bun Griffis started the L.P. Gas business and moved it to the Westside of Jacksonville in 1954, where it operated as Griffis Gas for over fifty years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maxville for many years. He was very loyal to his family, church, and his customers that he served. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army, starting in 1946 and served in Germany during WWII. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ida Johns Griffis; son Hank Griffis of Ponte Vedra Beach; daughters, Sharon Cunningham and Diana Mosley both of Maxville; 6 grandchildren, Brian Turner, Davey Mosley, Dayna Stevens, Debra Mosley, Blake Griffis, and Matthew Griffis; 6 great grandchildren, Arin Mitchell, Garrett Stevens, Brandon Stevens, Hannah Mosley, Cassidy Stevens, and Alena Turner. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 4, at 11am in the First Baptist Church of Maxville, with Rev. Ian Hodge officiating, assisted by Rev. Jeff Nuckles. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery, Maxville. The family will receive friends on Monday Evening, today, from 6pm until 9pm at the church. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donation may be made to the Community Hospice Northeast, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32257.
