Mr. Griffis was a native of Clay County and is survived by his wife Mrs. Fannie Padgett Griffis; three sons, B. B. and Henry G. Griffis, Maxwell, operators of the Griffis Brothers Stores in Maxville and Wesconnett, and LeRoy Griffis, Maxville; two daughters, Mrs. M. A. Strickland and Mrs. Guy W. Frigo, Jacksonville; four brothers, six sisters and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday in the Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Clay County. The Rev. Lester R. Taggart, pastor of the Maxville Baptist Church, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Charles E. Jones, of the Congregational Holiness church. The body will rest at the John M. Brinkley Funeral Home, Macclenny, until 11:30 am Wednesday to be moved to the church to rest until the funeral hour. OBITUARY #2 FROM THE FILES OF DORA NORTH BRADFORD TELEGRAPH JUNE 28, 1957 GADSON GRIFFIS Funeral services for Gadson (Uncle Pete) Griffis were held Wednesday afternoon, June 26, at the Long Branch Baptist Church. Mr. Griffis died early Monday morning at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Clay County and had made Maxville his home for many years. Services were conducted by Rev. Lester Taggart, pastor of the Maxville Baptist Church, who was assisted by the Rev. Charles E. Jones, pastor of the Congregational Holiness Church. Active Pallbearers were James Coleman, Joe Lucas, Alfred Smith, Ed Wilkinson, Henry Carter and Waver Griffis. Honorary pallbearers were R. L. Harris, Jack Wilkinson, Rev. M. T. Knight, J. A. Godwin, K. C. Cannon, F. B. Coleman, Doss Higginbotham and Oscar Harris. Mr. Griffis is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie Padgett Griffis; three sons, Leroy, D. B. and Henry G., all of Maxville; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Strickland of Maxville and Mrs. Genevieve Frigo of Jacksonville; four brothers, Rev. Willie Griffis and Nathan Grifis of Glen St. Mary, and Brooks Griffis of Jacksonville and Raymond Griffis of Raiford; six sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jane Griffis of Maxville, Mrs. Frances Starling of Macclenny, Mrs. Flourida Griffis, Mrs. Easter Wilkinson, Mrs. Rebecca Rosier and Mrs. George Griffis, all of Lawtey, and seven grandchildren. Burial was in the Long Branch Cemetery.
