Description	:	Henry G. Porter, 87, last member of the Marvin Mills post, GAR, of Central City, died at his home in Manchester Saturday night. Mr. Porter was a former Central City resident, having conducted a hardware store here for 25 years, later moving to Manchester and entering a contract with the government to carry mail between Manchester and Marion, which route he conducted for several years. Porter, 87, last member of the Marvin Mills post, GAR, of Central City, died at his home in Manchester Saturday night. Mr. Porter was a former Central City resident, having conducted a hardware store here for 25 years, later moving to Manchester and entering a contract with the government to carry mail between Manchester and Marion, which route he conducted for several years. Deceased was born in Thirsk, Yorkshire, England, and came to America with his parents when he was a babe of 4 weeks. Five years after their arrival in the US, the family came to Iowa and located in the Buck Creek vicinity and Linn and Delaware Counties have been his home until the time of his death. Mr. Porter was a member of Company K, 21st Iowa and of the 115 men who enlisted in that company, but one survives, Erastus Smith. In 1866 Mr Porter was married to Hanna Olmstead, who died in 1911. In 1913 he was again remarried to Mrs. Mary Joslyn, Manchester, who with 3 daughters, Mrs. Harry Reed, Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Louis Reed, and Miss Fannie Porter, thies City, survive. Also, two brothers, J. F. Porter of Albin, NE, and E. A. Porter, Deer Creek, Minn., survive. Mr. Porter was mayor of Central City for a number of years. He was one of the promoters of the Wapsi Valley Fair and had an interesting history of the early days of Linn and Delaware Counties. Mr. Porter also served here as a clerk, assessor, justice of the peace, and trustee of the J.C. Clegg library, Central City. Funeral services were conducted in Manchester on Tuesday, adn the body was brought to this city for burial.
