Deceased was 80 years of age and is survived by a widow, one son, Thos., formerly reeve of Adjala township, and a daughter, Miss Hattie. The late Mr. Goodeve was born in England, but came to Canada when a mere child, and spent nearly the whole of his lifetime in the neighborhood of Hockley. He was connected with the Anglican Church and was a Conservative in politics. Orangeville Banner, August 10, 1916, page 3 - Hockley Mr. Henry Goodeve, one of the oldest residents of this community, died at his home, lot 16, Con. 1, Adjala, about 6 o’clock on Wednesday evening of last week, from the effects of an apoplectic stroke. Mr. Goodeve sustained the stroke on Tuesday morning of the week preceding his death while out in the fields bringing in the cows for the morning milking. The deceased was 80 years of age and is survived by a widow, one son, Thomas, formerly reeve of Adjala township, and a daughter, Miss Hattie. Messrs. Robert Goodeve, of Orangeville, and Thos. Goodeve, of Brampton, are the surviving brothers. The late Mr. Goodeve was born in England but came to Canada when a mere child, and had spent nearly the whole of his lifetime in the neighborhood of Hockley. He was an honest, industrious man, kindly and sympathetic by nature and very charitable in his dealings with those not fortunately circumstanced. He enjoyed the undivided respect of the whole neighborhood and his demise has been the cause of wide-spread sorrow. Deep sympathy is also expressed on all sides for the bereaved widow and family. Deceased was connected with the Anglican church and was a Conservative in politics. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which was held to St. John’s Church Cemetery on Friday afternoon. Rev. J. H. Kerr was the officiating clergyman. The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Fleming, Geo. Fleming, Lindsay Irwin, Geo. Goodeve, Ernest Goodeve and W. H. Goodeve.
