Born in Pickens County, a son of the late W.G. and Josie Hunter Sanders. Mr. Sanders retired from Dan River after 36 years of service. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, the Golden Gems and was also a former deacon. Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 95th Division, where he received the Purple Heart, Combat Medic Badge, and a Presidential Citation. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Cleon Simmons Sanders of the home; a daughter, Carolyn Keasler of Easley; three sisters, Jessie Chapman of Easley, Ressie Sanders of Pickens, and Edith Head of Liberty; three grandchildren and their spouses, Barry and Jan Keasler, Cassi and Brian Barner, all of Easley, and Bridget and Jack Sparkman of Taylors; great-grandchildren, Chase Hall, Emery Barner, Kristin Finley, Jillian Brandi Sparkman, Jacki Davis, Lori Sparkman and Michael Finley and his wife, Melissa; and great-great-grandchildren, Bailey Black, Will Merchant and Jamie Davis. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. M.T. Hudgens and the Rev. Ralph Carter officiating. Burial will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Charles Griffin. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class, Deacons of Eastside Baptist Church and Dr. J.K. Holcombe. The family is at the residence.
