Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the American Lutheran Church in Adams, NE. Henry Gramann Jr., 92 years of age, of Adams, NE. passed away at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, NE. Saturday afternoon, February 4, 2006. He was born on December 19, 1913 on his uncle's farm to Henry and Marie Gramann and lived his entire life in the Adams Area and moved into Adams, NE. in 1946. He was a 1931 graduate of Adams High School, Adams, NE. He worked at the Adams State Bank after his graduation from High School until he attended the University Of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. He participated in ROTC training and became a commissioned officer in 1936. He and Kathleen Radcliffe were married on June 8, 1940 in Lincoln, NE. He served his country during World War II and was a Lt. Colonel in the Pacific Theater. He re-entered that Adams State Bank following his service during World War II. He was elected as President of the Nebraska Bankers Association in 1969. He was named President of the Adams State Bank in Adams, NE. in 1969 following his father's death and served as President of the bank until 2001. He was the Trustee of the Coffman-Levi Charitable Trust which led to the creation of the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Adams, NE. and had served on the church council. He was a member of the Frederick-Steidley Post #221, American Legion in Adams, NE. He was also a member and leader of many civic organizations. Survivors include 2 sons, Henry Max Gramann and his wife Lavon and Karl W. Gramann and his wife Mary, all of Adams, NE.; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and sisters Rosie Van Greuningen of Phoenix, AR. and Mary Van Greuningen of Plano, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Sr. and Marie (Hennies) Gramann; wife of 54 years Kathleen Gramann (1994); brother Max Gramann and sister Elspeth. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the American Lutheran Church in Adams, NE. with Reverend Glenn Schacht and Father John Folda officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Adams, NE. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Frederick-Steidley Post #221, American Legion in Adams, NE. Closed casket visitation will be held from 3-5:00 Monday at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, NE. and from 6:00 -9:00 P.M. Monday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams, NE. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday at the church. A memorial has been established to the American Legion in Adams, NE. with Lloyd Ruemelin and Vince VanEngen in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams, NE. is in charge of the services.
