After his discharge, he went to Clarksville, Iowa and in 1866 he was married to Malinda Barker, a marriage which ended in divorce. After living in Iowa, Minnesota they again settled in Chicksaw County, Iowa where they had been residents for 40 years at the time of his death in 1921. He was engaged in farming, an occupation pursued by a great many of his descendants. ___________ Nasuha Newspaper obituary, Taps Sounded For Veteran Henry H. fisher, for Forty Years a Resident of this Community, Passed Away Friday Henry H. Fisher, for the past forty years a respected citizen of this community and a veteran of the Civil war, passed away at his home in Bradford last Friday after an illness of a few weeks from pneumonia. Henry Harrison Fisher was born September 7, 1841, at Willbury, Vermont, and died at Bradford, Iowa, January 21, 1921, being in his 80th year. Having lost his mother in early childhood, he came west at the age of 14 and located in Illinois where he worked on a farm until the outbreak of the civil war. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. G, Second Illinois Light Artillery, and served until the close of the war, a period of four years lacking 11 days. In April, 1865, he was married to Linda S. Barker at Sparta, Wisconsin, and the result of this union was one son, Nelson D. Mr. Fisher was married again on July 10, 1870, to Mrs. Mary Hawks Jessmore, and of this union eight sons and one daughter were born. Mrs. Fisher having one daughter, Ollie, by a former marriage at the time of her marriage to Mr. Fisher. These eleven children of the couple are still all living. Mr. and Mrs Fisher lived for a time at Marble Rock, where their eldest son was born, later moving to Howard county, near Cresco, where Mr. Fisher pursued his avocation of farming, which he followed all his long and active life. For nearly 40 years Mr. and Mrs Fisher have been respected residents of Chickasaw county, in or near Nashua, and here the children have grown to maturity and made homes for themselves. Mr. Fisher came to be quite a patriarch, the couple having nine sons and two daughters, and there are now ... also 53 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Barker of Lacon, Ill,; Will J., Nashua; Henry S., of Garrison, Iowa; Lester R., George A., Noble G., Bert L., Earl W., Walter C., and Gertie (Mrs. Simerson) all of Nashua. This fact that most of Mr. and Mrs. Fisher's children and grandchildren still live within a radius of five miles of he parental home, is a noteworthy fact. Mr. Fisher had been for years a member of the Baptist Church, and also a member of Geo. W. S. Dodge Post, G. A. R. A short time ago he expressed a wish that his time might come to pass to the life beyond before any of his children were called, and that wish was fulfilled. Although having attained to the ripe old age of nearly four score years he was hale hearty... to within a few weeks of his death, when he was stricken by pneumonia, which brought about his demise. he suffered from this comparatively little, and up to the last hour of consciousness was in a happy and jovial mood tho he expressed the belief soon after he was compelled to take to his bed that the end was not far off. He had a deep and abiding faith in his God, and had no fear of death's call that should bring him face to face with his Maker. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Little Brown Church and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, where the G.A.R had their ritual service. Members of the W.R.C. also attended the services. The obsequies were in charge of the Rev. H. D. Green of the M. E. church.
