When Noble was born Olive was 15, Wilbur was 11, Henry was 9, Lester was 7, and George was 5. I have wondered if Noble was given the middle name "Garfield" because President James Garfield had been assassinated just 6 months before Noble was born. I'm also curious about the name "Noble" but I have no clues regarding that name. When Noble was 2 ½ years old his half-sister, Olive, married Wesley Jones. When Noble was just over 3 years old his brother, Bert Logan, was born. Noble was almost 5 years old when his brother, Earl Wesley, was born. One year later, when Noble was almost 6 years old, his sister, Gertrude Mae, was born. At age 9 ½ Noble's youngest brother, Walter Cecil, was born. At this time the Henry H. Fisher family consisted of 7 boys and 1 girl living at home. In the 1895 Iowa state census Noble and his family lived in Chickasaw Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa. By this time two of Noble's brothers had gotten married: Henry and Wilbur. The 1900 US census shows Noble and his family living in Bradford Township on a rented farm. His brother, Lester, got married in 1896 and Noble's brother, George, was living with Lester and his wife at the time of the 1900 US census; George got married in 1901. In November 1903 Vivian Grace was born to Eva Irene Waterman. Noble and Eva were not yet married. In the 1905 Iowa census Eva and Vivian are living in Horton, Polk County, Iowa. On February 6, 1907, Noble Garfield Fisher and Eva Irene Waterman were married in Nashua at the home of Noble's parents. The February 14, 1907 issue of the Nashua Reporter notes that "S.H. Noble, Justice of the Peace, performed the ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony a splendid supper was served. The groom is a young man who is well and favorably known in Nashua, and is upright and honest in all of his dealings, while the bride is a stranger to us. The newly married couple have gone to housekeeping upon a farm owned by the groom near Carrville." The next weekly issue of the Nashua Reporter dated February 21, 1907, states "Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Fisher who live northwest of town, gave a reception at their home Sunday for their son, Noble, and bride, who were married a couple weeks ago. Only the near relatives of the contracting parties were present to extend their best wishes and congratulations to the newly married couple. A sumptuous dinner was served." In addition to Vivian Grace born in 1903, Noble and Eva had 8 more children: Leland Troy born 1907, Mary Belle born 1908, Hattie Marie born 1911, Maude Leone born 1913, Kenneth Garfield born 1914, Ella Irene born 1915, Howard Glen born 1920, and Russell L. born 1921. On February 3, 1910, an interesting article was printed in the Nashua Reporter. It was entitled "A Terrible Encounter". The article stated: "The following appeared in the Des Moines Capital. It demonstrates the truth of the saying 'Get away from home to hear the news': Waterloo, Iowa, Jan. 25 – A starving wolf that has been skulking near Nashua several weeks was killed by Noble Fisher after a desperate battle with a pitchfork and crowbar. Fisher had no other weapon when he came upon the animal in a hay stack. The hungry beast attacked him and a fierce fight ensued, which was won by Fisher." The 1910 US census shows Noble, Eva, 3 children, and Eva's grandmother living on a rented farm next to Noble's brother George and not far from Noble's brother Will. The 1920 US census shows Noble, Eva, and 7 children farming a rented farm in a different location. In January 1921 Noble's father, Henry Harrison Fisher, died. In 1922 Noble and Eva's oldest daughter, Vivian Grace married Thomas John Kosmoski. Vivian and Thomas had one son, Sylvester Burdette. The 1925 Iowa State census record shows Noble, Eva, and 8 children living on a rented farm. On June 11, 1927, Noble and Eva's daughter Mary Belle married Earl Clarence Riley. Mary and Earl had 2 sons: Kenneth Duane and Harold Edward. Sometime after 1940 Mary and Earl divorced. Mary married Dale Baldwin in 1948. The 1930 US census information was taken in April of 1930. Noble, Eva, and their children were living on a rented farm in Chickasaw Township. Just four months later, on August 28, 1930, Noble's wife Eva died at her home at the age of 47 after 8months of illness. Eva's mother died when Eva was a small child and she was raised by her grandmother. At the time of Eva's death, her father was still alive in New York but could not make the long trip to be present during the time of her illness or her death. At the time of Eva's death Noble was left with 7 children at home ranging in age from 9 to 23. On September 6, 1931, Noble's son Leland Troy married Lillian Mary Rodamaker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lee and Lillian had 2 children: Rollo James and Dorothy Louise. On June 2, 1934, Noble's daughter Maude Leone married John Edward Bartlett. Maude and John had 2 sons: John Elmer and Russell Edward. Just a little over 2 months later, on August 29, 1934, Noble's daughter Ella Irene married Ernest L. Cagley. Ella and Ernest had 5 children: Phyllis May, Glen Erwin, Rolland E., Sharon K., and Patricia. On February 19, 1937 Noble's mother, Mary Martha (Hawk) Fisher died of influenza at the age of 87. Sometime in 1939 Noble's son Howard Glen married Geraldine Ackerson. Howard and Geraldine had one son: Richard LaVern. In December of 1942 Noble's youngest son, Russell, enlisted in the United States Army and fought in WW II. He returned home in December of 1945. After serving in the Army, Russell married Genevieve Hall. They had 3 children: LaVern Lee, JoAnne, and Susanne. On May 22, 1943 Noble's son Kenneth Garfield married Edith Spears in Missouri. They had no children. On September 12, 1948 Kenneth married Mildred Elizabeth Jurgens. Kenneth and Mildred had 2 sons: Terry Paul and David Vern. On January 10, 1947 Noble's daughter Hattie Marie married John Otto Schroeder who was 16 years her senior. Hattie had been working as John's housekeeper since 1935 according to the 1940 US census. Hattie and John did not have any children. Six of Noble's siblings died before he did: Nelson Barker, Olive (Jessmore) Jones, and Henry, Wilbur, Lester, and Earl Fisher. Noble's sister Gertrude died 4 months after Noble. One of Noble's children died before he did; his son Russell died on August 10, 1964. Noble Garfield Fisher died on March 11, 1970 in Nashua, Chickasaw, Iowa. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
