Description	:	Henry Heynen, 86, of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, January 17, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A memorial service was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Stephen Rhoda officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Heynen was born December 20, 1920, to William J. and Fannie (Jager) Heynen in Sioux Center. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school at Welcome #4 through the eighth grade. He married Lenora Vreeman on July 6, 1939, in Sioux Center. She preceded him in death on November 30, 1995. They farmed northwest of Sioux Center until 1969. After moving to town he worked for Dordt College as a part of their maintenance department until his retirement in 1986. He was known for always being very handy and was a certified boiler technician, locksmith and was able to do bowling alley repair. He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing amd listening to gospel music. He loved history and would often record stories of his family so they would be preserved for the next generation. The couple hosted Dordt College students in their basement apartment for about 30 years. Survivors include three children, William Gene (Bill) Heynen and his wife of Boyden, Virginia Ward and her husband Charles of Amarillo, Texas, and Valerie Hulleman of Sioux Center; eight grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Marion Wiersma of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Etta Heusinkveld, Sena Vreeman and Marie Shepherd, all of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hilbert and Alice Heynen and Tony and Hermina Heynen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Daisy and John H. Den Herder and Grace and Sam Altena; sister, Minnie Wiersma; and one great granddaughter. The Heynen family prefers memorials be directed to CHEARS Home Health and Hospice.
