Description	:	Henry Joseph Soukop, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Zikmund) Soukop, was born on April 7, 1918 on a farm near Lawrence, Nebraska. He passed away on April 9, 2007 at the Superior Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 89 years and 2 days. Henry grew as a young man on the farm and was educated in a country school near Nelson, graduating from Nelson High School with the class of 1937. Read More	Henry Joseph Soukop, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Zikmund) Soukop, was born on April 7, 1918 on a farm near Lawrence, Nebraska. He passed away on April 9, 2007 at the Superior Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 89 years and 2 days. Henry grew as a young man on the farm and was educated in a country school near Nelson, graduating from Nelson High School with the class of 1937. He then worked for the Ideal Cement Plant in Superior, Nebraska for 45 years as Train Engineer. On September 21, 1941 in Mankato, Kansas he was united in marriage to Ruby E. Sibert. This union was blessed with three children. Henry enlisted in the United States Army on April 6, 1943 serving in the 17th Airborne Division and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. For the years to follow he kept in touch with his fellow comrades by attending the reunions in both Colorado and Tennessee. Henry was known throughout the years for his gardening talents, every year he tried to cut down but they always grew larger year by year. The produce which consisted of tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, green beans, and sweet corn, which were just some of the countless items which he nurtured and shared with family, friends and neighbors. You would also see Henry driving his little Ford Tractor and wearing his dark blue overhauls while working in the garden. Another hobby of Henry's was he liked to spend time tinkering on "Ford" automobiles. He was an avid shopper, in which he made many numerous trips to Hastings with his daughters Sharon and Connie. Staying fit was important to Henry and you would always see him riding his bicycle around town for both leisure and exercise. We will all remember him for his greeting "What's new today?" Henry was a wonderful provider for his family, and he truly loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry was blessed to have all his family present to help him in celebrating his 89th birthday at the Good Samaritan Center where he was residing at. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 3355, and the American Legion Post #103 both of Superior. Preceding him in death were his parents, a great-grandson Kalen Schiermeyer and one brother, Emil. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Sharon Schiermeyer and husband Robert and Connie Laluk and husband Adolph all of Superior, Nebraska and son, Jerry Soukop and wife Susan of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, George Soukop and wife Damar of Salem, Oregon and Lloyd Soukop and wife Mattie of Grand Island,Nebraska and sister-in-law Betty Soukop of Potter, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Curtis Schiermeyer, Allen Schiermeyer and wife Kelly all of Nelson, Nebraska, Brian Schiermeyer and wife Julie of St. Joe, Missouri, Troy Laluk and wife Cynthia of Shawnee, Kansas, Terry Laluk and wife Cris of St. Joe, Missouri, Brent Soukop of Littleton, Colorado, Debra Vela and husband Max of Arvada, Colorado and Shelly Kile and husband Jahn of Hastings, Nebraska; 13 great-grandchildren, Kendra and Eric Schiermeyer of Nelson, Nebraska, Brandon and Collin Schiermeyer of St. Joe, Missouri, Avery, Jordan and Brianne Laluk of Shawnee, Kansas, Andrew, Chase and Abby Laluk of St. Joe, Missouri, Sierra and Jaylen Kile of Hastings, Nebraska and Kaile Vela of Arvada, Colorado, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Leslie Warner officiating. Music was "Wind Beneath My Wings," "How Great Thou Art," and "One Day At A Time," with Tracy Quakenbush as soloist and Carlita Erickson as organist. Pallbearers were Curtis Schiermeyer, Allen Schiermeyer, Brian Schiermeyer, Troy Laluk, Terry Laluk, and Brent Soukop. Honorary Pallbearers were Jahn Kile, Adolph Laluk, Robert Schiermeyer and Max Vela. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska with Full Military Rites. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Superior, Nebraska.
