Description	:	Lloyd Soukop, 89 a longtime resident of Grand Island died Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Golden Living Center at Park Place. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Cremation will take place following the service with burial of ashes at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and United Veterans Honor Guard. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Soukop was born June 2, 1927 at Nelson, NE the son of Joseph and Henrietta (Zickmund) Soukop. He grew up on the family farm and attended elementary and high school in Nelson. He loved to sing and play a guitar as a young boy, his favorite was “Old Shep” and country music. On October 23, 1945 he entered the U.S. Army serving in Northern Italy with the occupation forces. Having attained the rank of T/5 serving as a mail clerk and was trained as an information-education instructor. Lloyd was honorably discharged on April 1, 1947. Following the military he worked at Biermans Auto Electric in Kearney from 1948-52. While living in Kearney he married Mattie Delano on July 8, 1951. He opened a shop in Lexington which he ran for two years. On January 1, 1954 he opened up Lloyd and Herbs Tune Up and Used Cars with Herb Heusel. They were partners until they retired in 1997. While in the business, being an accomplished pilot, he flew his own plane to many markets, purchasing cars for the used car side of the business. Along with flying Lloyd enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and training his own Brittney hunting dogs. A favorite pass time was playing cards with family and friends. He drove to Nelson on Monday nights to the Legion Club to play cards while his health permitted. Every morning he would meet his friends at McDonalds to have coffee and talk about the latest news. Lloyd was a talker and could make friends with everyone. He loved to raise a garden raising cucumbers and tomato’s to share with his friends. He served on the Nebraska Dealer Licensing Board for two terms from 1985-91. He was a member of the Nebraska Independent Auto Dealers Association from 1981-1997. Serving many committees he enjoyed chairing the Legislative Committee the most, as it pertained to laws which affected Dealers and protected the consumer. He promoted good business ethics. His other memberships included the Eagles, VFW and Platt Deutsch. Survivors include a brother, George (Damara) Soukop of Salem, Oregon; sister-in-law, Betty Soukop of Potter; nieces, Sharon Schiermeyer of Superior, Connie (Adolph) Laluk of Superior, Janet (Walter) Notzli of Wheat Ridge, CO; nephews, Jerry (Susan) Soukop of Denver and Ron (Rosemarie) Soukop of Clarksville, Indiana; many cousins and close friends, Gloria Jones, John (Sallie) Folsom, Del Kosmicki and Jerry Nielsen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years who died April 2, 2008, his parents, brothers, Henry and Emil Soukop, an infant brother, Joseph and sister-in-law, Ruby Soukop.
