Henry married Sarah Dubes on September 8, 1872 in Cherokee Co, IA. They were the parents of 11 children: Howard, Florence, Wilbur, Ella, Cora, Clara, Hattie, Willis, Rose, Vern and Glen. Cherokee Evening Times - Monday, May 11th, 1925 - Henry M. Lane was born in Wayne county, Indiana, March 15, 1849. When he was seven years old he moved with his parents to Clayton county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was reared in the occupation of farming and obtained his education in the public schools. He came to Cherokee county in 1869 and took a homestead in Silver township. On September 8, 1872, he was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Dubes, and to them were born eleven children: Wilbur, Ella, Cora, Clara, Hattie, Willis, Howard, Florence, Rose, Vern and Glenn. Three of these, Howard, Florence and Clara have passed to the great beyond, and Mrs. Sarah Lane who labored with him so faithfully during the changing years was taken to her reward October 3, 1924. In 1912 Mr and Mrs. Lane retired from the farm and secured a home in Cherokee, where they resided until claimed by the Grim Reaper whose only footprints are graves. After many months of suffering, Mr. Lane entered into rest May 6, 1925. He embraced the Christian religion in 1887, and became a charter member of Mt Olive Baptist church, which relationship he maintained with credit unto the end. He sought always to lead a consistent life, and was ever ready to do his part. He is survived by one brother and one sister; four sons and four daughters, twenty-eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Beloved by all, he will ever be remembered as a kind father, a devoted husband, a faithful friend, and above all a true Christian. Funeral service were held at Good Hope church, conducted by Rev. E.H. Gillet pastor at Mt. Olive, assisted by Rev. L.A. Miller of Cherokee, and interment was in Good Hope cemetery.
