They were the parents of 11 children: Howard, Florence, Wilbur, Ella, Cora, Clara, Hattie, Willis, Rose, Vern and Glen. Cherokee Evening Times - Wednesday , October 8th, 1924 - Sarah Elizabeth Dubes Lane was born November 26, 1854, in Allamakee county, Iowa. She lived there until 1870 when she moved with her parents to Cherokee county where she has since resided. She was united in marriage September 8, 1872 to Henry M. Lane. To this union was born eleven children, all living except two - Howard and Florence, who departed this life early in life. Those living are Wilbur of Brookings, S.D., Ella Stahl of Sioux Falls, S.D., Cora Leeds of Iroquois, S.D., Clara Johnson of Storm Lake, Iowa, Hattie Kellar of Madison, S.D., Willis of Beresford, S.D., Rose Freeborn, of Melville, ND, Vern, who still resides with his parents, and Glen of Sioux City. Three brothers: M.T. (her twin brother), D.D. Dubes, and E Howard; one sister, Mrs J.J. Juber; three daughter-in-laws, six son-in-laws, twenty-eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren still survive her. She was converted in 1887 and united with the Mt. Olive Baptist church. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, looking first to the interest of those about her. Her influence will be greatly missed by the immediate family, relatives, and a large circle of friends. During her intense suffering she still kept her Christian faith until she was called October 3, 1924. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock, October 6th, from the Good Hope M.E. church and was conducted by Rev. L.A. Miller, pastor of the Baptist church of Cherokee. Interment in the Good Hope cemetery. Cherokee Evening Times - Friday , October 10th, 1924 - Our community was shocked to hear of Mrs. Lane's death Friday evening immediately following the social. We all knew she was very poorly, but death is always a shock. Death came to her as a great relief from intense suffering. Mrs. Lane was loved by all who knew her. We all join in extending our sympathy to the sorrowing relatives. Her funeral was held at Good Hope Monday afternoon and the body laid to rest in Good Hope cemetery beside her two children who died a number of years ago. The flowers were many and beautiful. The service was very impressive. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Miller, the new minister at the Cherokee Baptist church.
