Description	:	Henry R. Esp, 89, died Saturday in Stillwater Community Hospital of cancer. He was born February 5, 1900 on Upper Deer Creek ten miles east of Big Timber, Montana, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Esp. On April 28, 1923 he was married to Alva Lee in Big Timber. In 1928 they moved to Big Horn County where Henry was sheep foreman for Harvey Cort Ranch. Esp, 89, died Saturday in Stillwater Community Hospital of cancer. He was born February 5, 1900 on Upper Deer Creek ten miles east of Big Timber, Montana, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Esp. On April 28, 1923 he was married to Alva Lee in Big Timber. In 1928 they moved to Big Horn County where Henry was sheep foreman for Harvey Cort Ranch. In 1940 he entered into a partnership with Tschirigi at Wyola, and later and his own sheep operation on Lodge Grass Creek. In retrospect Henry did manage to get out of the sheep corrals long enough to perform his civic duties by serving as past president of Montana Wool Growers, a director of Montana Taxpayers Association, a director of Big Horn County REA and for nine years as a Big Horn County Commissioner. He also held various offices in the Farm Bureau. He was an avid fisherman and pool player. In 1974 he retired and moved to Fishtail, Montana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Esp in 1979. Survivors include two sons, Henry Lee of Hardin, Montana; one sister, Alma Esp Oswald of Idaho Falls; a half sister, Beulah Esp Forester of Grey Cliff; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 2pm in the Big Timber Lutheran Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery. Published Big Timber Pioneer July 26, 1989
