American Legion rites were conducted by post 19. The color guard was composed of F. B Peterson, A. Ronald McDonnell, Harold Boe, and Ralph Prather; the firing squad, Herb McCauley commander, Theo. N. Counter, Byron Manley, Stanley Hanson, Henry See, and Everett Charlson. Orvin B. Fjare acted as chaplain and Douglas Lowry, bugler. Mr. Esp was born on Upper Deer creek May 24, 1912, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole T. Esp. His father died in 1924 and following a change of ownership of the ranch later, Oscar lived and worked with his cousin, Leonard Esp who ranched on the same creek. This gave him an opportunity to prepare for the life he had shown a keen interest for-general ranching and livestock. As a young man, he went to work on the Crow Indian reservation mostly for the Antler Livestock Co., for which his older brother, Henry Esp, had been sheep foreman for several years. After exploring the Big Horn and surrounding country the returned to the Big Timber area working on various ranches until he entered the Army for World war II service, winding up in the Air Force and stationed near London until the end of the conflict. Upon his return he continued to work on ranches here. After his mother and Anton Tronrud were married he spent much of his time working for them on their ranch west of Melville, and after Mr. Tronrud died he continued helping his mother. His mother passed away in January 1942, and Oscar purchased the ranch from the estate, operating it until his death. He was married to Eddalie Hower on May 26, 1962. Mr. Esp was a member of the Melville Lutheran church. Survivors include his widow; two-step-sons, James and Edward Parrent; two sisters, Mrs. Rudolph (Beulah) Forster of Grey Cliff and Mrs. Earl (Alma) Robinson of Idah Fallos, Ida.; two brothers Henry Esp of Lodge Grass and Gordon Nepstad of Billings.
