Nine, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Nine, was born near Hillsboro, Fountain county, Indiana, Feb. 25, 1842. He grew to manhood on his father's farm and in 1862 went to Darke county, Ohio. It was while working there that he met his wife, Catherine Marker and they were married on March 17, 1864, the same year they, with other relatives, immigrated to Iowa by the old schooner route, settling on a farm near Norwood, in Lucas county, where he continued to live until the death of his wife eight years ago. Since then he has made his home with his children. To this union were born eleven children, five preceding him in death. The surviving ones being: Mrs. D. L. Puderbaugh, of Lacona; Mrs. Effie Roe and H. C. Nine, of Norwood; Daniel L. Nine, of Liberty Center; David L. Nine, of Chariton; and J. C. Nine, of New Virginia. He also leaves to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Brown, of Ill., one brother, David Nine, of Indiana, thirty-six grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. His loving and faithful wife preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 1917. He was converted and joined the United Brethren church early in life and lived a faithful and conscientious Christian life until the time of his death, which occurred, after a lingering illness, at the home of his son, J. C. Nine, near New Virginia, Iowa, on April 20, 1926, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 26 days. In his later years he was a great reader of his Bible and one of his greatest enjoyments was listening to the scriptures and studying them. Henry Nine was loved and respected by all who knew him, and as his life was lived, so may it end by hearing his Master say: Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter then into the joys of the Lord. Funeral services were held at Norwood United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. N. D. Gordon, of Indianola, Iowa, on Wednesday, April 21, at 2 p.m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Fletcher cemetery.
