Son of Henry William Nine and Catherine Marker OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, November 1, 1956 HENRY CLAY NINE Henry Clay Nine, of 1207 West Braden Ave., Chariton, Iowa, son of Henry and Katherine Nine, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 1956, at the Helen and Martha Rest Home in Chariton after a short illness of six weeks, at the age of 83 years, six months and 22 days. He was born March 26, 1873 in Ottercreek township, Lucas county, Iowa, where he spent his entire life farming until retiring 8 years ago. In early life he joined the United Brethren church of Norwood. On Dec. 9, 1896, he was married to Mantie Crawford. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946. To this union were born six children, all of whom survive. Surviving are the wife: four daughters, Vera Curtis of Norwood, Eloise Byerly of Des Moines, Hazel Goode of Chariton and Vena Hancock of Davenport; two sons, Virl of Indianola and Ervin of Davenport; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dan of Lucas and Jake of New Virginia; one sister, Effie Roe of Lucas; several nieces, nephews and a large circle of friend.s He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and one grandson. Funeral services were conducted at the Miley chapel Sunday, Oct. 21, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Harold Kinney of Indianola officiated. Burial was in the Fletcher cemetery near Norwood. Pallbearers were grandsons Ronald Goode, of Amarillo, Tex., Jerry Goode, of Salina, Kans.; Marvin Lee, of Davenport; Don Geurink, of Davenport; Tom Roush, of Indianola; and Harry Kinsey, of Norwood.
