His obituary in the Frederick News-Post, Frederick, Maryland, June 13, 1933. Farmer Struck By Lightning Thinning Corn, Henry Z. Culler, 53, Near Feagaville, Killed Instantly. Struck by lightning while tinning corn on his farm near Feagaville about 5:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, Henry Zimmerman Culler, 53, well-known resident of that section of the county, was instantly killed. Dr. Edward P. Thomas, who was summoned to the farm, said death was caused by the electrical shock which left scarcely a mark on the dead man's body. The bolt of lightning that struck down the farmer came at the time when a thunderstorm, which had threatened this city and nearby sections, including Feagaville, was apparently passing around. No rain was falling at the time, it was stated and the flash occurred so suddenly that the deceased son, Henry H., who was working with him, scarcely knew what had happened until he saw his father lying on the ground. The son, working nearby, was uninjured and immediately summoned help. Death however was instantaneous. The body was taken to the home nearby and it was found that Mr. Culler had only two slight marks, one on his chest and one on his right side, which were caused by the lightning. He was an uncle of Roger P. Culler, native if Feagaville, who died earlier Monday to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Culler farmed what was known as the "home farm" of his father, the late James Henry Culler, for some years. His mother, Mrs. Lavenia (Zimmerman) Culler, 92, survives him and resides in Feagaville. He is also survived by his widow, Mrs. Mildred (Shaff) Culler; three daughters, Miss M. Louise Culler, a Frederick City Hospital staff; Misses Evelyn L. E. Culler and Viola H. Culler and one son, Henry Culler, all at home. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters; Philip L. Culler, Kurtz E. Culler and Claude F. Culler, all of Feagaville; Mrs. William C. Mercer, near Braddock; Mrs. Myra V. Thomas, near Frederick; Mrs. J. Russell Hargett, Mrs. William D. Zimmerman, Misses Hester E. and Lela A. Culler, all of Feagaville. The deceased was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Feagaville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. M. E. Etchlson and Son funeral directors.
