Description	:	Harold, the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Abel, died rather unexpectedly at his home in Emerson Saturday afternoon. He had been sick only a day or so and the exact cause of his death does not appear to be certain. Spinal meningitis is reported to have been one of the complications. The funeral was held Monday afternoon. Mills County Tribune, Tuesday, June 18, 1907 this community recieved a great shock the past week in the illness and death of Harold Lester Abel, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Abel and one of Emerson's popular young men. He was taken sick last Thursday with what soon developed to brain fever. A physician was summoned as soon as he was known be ill and everything possible done relieve his sufferings but to no avail. He became unconscious in a short time and continued so until his death the following Saturday. His sufferings at times were intense. Harold was born in Emerson in the home in which he died, July 11, 1891. He passed his life in this city. He finished the grammar department of schools and was entered for the high School for next year. He was industrious steady boy and at the time of his death was employed in the meat market for the vacation of this summer. Harold was a boy who won and retained hosts of friends and probably no one of his age would more missed from our town than he. He had a genial, happy disposition that made him justly popular to his associates who sincerely mourn his untimely end. The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and conducted by Rev. E. B. Linn of Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. John Baylor of the Baptist Church. A large concourse of friends assembled and where the remains the room was fairly banked with flowers and floral designs sent in by mourning friends. His class in school it in an especially beautiful offering. Deepest sympathy goes out to the stricken relatives in their sad bereavement.
