Description	:	Abel Wednesday W. W. Abel passed away Sunday in the Red Oak Memorial hospital after suffering a stroke. Services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. at the Emerson Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyman Smith as officiant. Interment was in the Emerson Cemetery. Pall bearers were James Huntsman, Vernon Johnson, Fred Huntsman, Horace Greenwood, Frank Durbin and Dr. L. C. Blank. Earl Crawford and Wilbur Morrison were ushers. In charge of flowers were Mrs. L. William Wallace Abel was born on the Abel farm west of Emerson August 9, 1876 and departed from the life at the Red Oak Memorial hospital, Red Oak, June 11, 1955. He was the son of Rosetta Armstrong and Don Carlos Abel. The Abel family moved to the east part of Emerson when Mr. Abel was a small child and he has resided here all of his life. He attended the Emerson public school and graduated from Emerson high school. He helped his father in the carpenter work in his youth before attending college — the Des Moines school of Pharmacy, from which he graduated September 3, 1901, finishing a four year course in two years and receiving his degree of Pharmacy. He opened a Drug store in Emerson, which he operated until 1948 when he sold the store to George Stllle. Mr. Abel received his 50 year certificate for Registered Pharmacy in Iowa In 1951. On November 12, 1901 he was united in marriage to Cora B. Armstrong of this city. And to them was born one son Bruce, who passed away on December 18, 1921 from an injury received in basketball. Mrs. Abel preceded him in death March 9, 1939. He was a member of the Presbterian Church in Emerson, a member ot Humanity Lodge No., Emerson. For many years wns treasurer of the Emerson school board and also a trustee of the Emerson Cemetery Association. He was the director of a band here for some years and also a pitcher on the local baseball club of his time. Mr. Abel was a lover of flowers and his flowers at his home have been a show place in Emerson for many years. He enjoyed the out of doors and liked to hunt, fish, ind play golf. After retirement from business he spent winters in a warmer climate Arizona and California, until the past winter when his health began to fail. Mr. Abel will be missed by his friends as he was always interested in them and kind and coniderate of them. Hee leaves to mourn his passing three sisters, Dana Oglevie of Emerson, Elaine Merrill of Pleasanttdale, Neb. and Lurland Abel of Glenwood; a niece and nephew other relatives and a host of friends. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Malvern Leader, June 16, 1955
