He was born September 27, 1925 in Elery, Ohio to the late Edwin and Frieda (Dachenhaus) Koppenhofer. He graduated from Hamler High School May 6, 1943 where he was a member of the basketball team and the FFA. He was born September 27, 1925 in Elery, Ohio to the late Edwin and Frieda (Dachenhaus) Koppenhofer. He graduated from Hamler High School May 6, 1943 where he was a member of the basketball team and the FFA. Herbert married Ramona Scheele on March 28, 1948 and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. Herb was baptized Oct 15, 1925 and confirmed April 2, 1939 at Hope Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio. Herb was a faithful member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon where he previously had served as deacon, financial secretary, and a member of the church bowling team. He loved spending time in is yard, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Bert G. Taylor American Legion in Napoleon. He proudly trained in the US Navy at Great Lakes in Evanston,IL and later served in the Philippines during World War II. Herb is survived by children, Michael Koppenhofer of Chicago, IL., Beth (Bob) Cottin of Sturgis, MI, and Scott of Malinta, OH, grandchildren, Kelly (Bryan) Hanlin, Nick Koppenhofer, Luke (Jamie) Handyside, Zach (Johanna) Handyside, Sam (Miranda) Handyside, Marc Handyside, Chris (Mary) Koppenhofer, Sean (Megan) Koppenhofer, Amanda Koppenhofer, Hillary Koppenhofer, Ryan Koppenhofer, 17 great grandchildren, and sister, Ruth C. Eickhoff of Napoleon. Funeral services for Herb will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon with Pastor James Castello officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Napoleon Joint Veterans Posts. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Rodenberger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Filing Home of Mercy or to a charity of the donor's choice.
