Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Herbert C. Suhr, son of Albert and Marie Sonder Suhr, was born April 22, 1920 northeast of Creighton. He attended German Lutheran School and rural public school at Bazile Mills. Suhr entered the US Army in October of 1942. He served in the European Theater as a staff sergeant with the 12th Armored Division in the 42nd Tank Battalion. He was discharged in February 1946. On April 25, 1948 he was married to Betty J. McManigal at Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills. Together they had four children, Gene, Richard, Lee and Kim. He lived in Creighton and worked for the REA for 15 years. He, then, became part owner/operator of the Creighton Livestock Market for a number of years. After retirement, they moved to Norfolk in 1977, where he worked a number of years for the State of Nebraska and Hy-Vee. They returned to Creighton in 2005. Suhr was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills and had served as a church elder and was also a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Norfolk for 28 years. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion, past post commander and former council member for the City of Creighton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edna Placek. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, Carl Suhr and Allen Suhr.
