Description	:	H. D. Peckham and S. High of Nodaway, came to town yesterday, in a buggy with a single horse. About dark they started home, there in some dispute about the hour, and about 9 p.m. they were both found lying by the road side, apparently dead, though in fact they were merely stunned. Dr. McNaughton and others were soon on hands and the men were taken home. It is suspected that their horse had run the buggy against a tree, violently throwing them out. Beckman was found wound about a tree, with is legs broken in six places, shoulder mashed and otherwise bruised, probably internally. High’s skull was fractured and he is hurt internally. The horse was caught by Mr. Campbell near his house and this led to the first discovery of the men by Mr. C. At this hour (noon) both men are reported living, but their chances for recovery are doubtful. Later: Peckham died this afternoon about 3 o’clock. He married Harriet Delia Mallory in 1862 in New York. They had six children in 17 years. He died in August 15, 1878 in Nodaway, Iowa, at the age of 40.
