Read More	Herbert Gordon Holcomb, 81, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 2 8, 2003, in Washington Regional Hospital. A memorial service was held in the Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville Oct. 30. He was born in the Oak Grove community, northwest of Springdale, Sept. 3 0, 1922, the son of Joe Latimer and Elva (McKeown) Holcomb. He was a member of Fayetteville Rolling Hills Baptist Church where he h ad served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in many other activities of the church. He graduated from Springdale High School and received B.S. degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering and a M.S. degree in education ad ministration, all from the University of Arkansas. He was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U. S. Bristol and the U. S. York town carriers. He served for 25 years as an engineer with Southwest Electrical Power Company and his educational career included teaching for two years in Fayetteville Public School, two years as elementary principal in Fort Smith Public Schools and six years as teacher of mathematics and physics a t what is now the Northwest Arkansas Institute of Springdale. He was a member of several educational and engineering societies. Holcombs avocation was real estate developing sub-divisions in Fayetteville and in Gentry, Ark. He restored what is now the Hill Building in Fayetteville, completing the first urban-renewal project in downtown Fayetteville. In retirement, he was an active genealogist and published a biography of his great-great-grandfather, the Rev. John Holcombe, who is known as the founder of Shiloh, now Springdale, Ark. He was preceded in death by a son, John Gordon Holcomb; a grandson, Aidan Robinson; and a brother, Dwight A. Holcomb. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Holcomb to whom he married April 20, 1946, in Arlington, Va.; daughters, of Stillwater, of Dexter, Kan.; daughter-in-law, and adopted son, of Scottsdale, Ariz. He is also survived by grandchildren, of Collinsville, of Stillwater, of Highland Kan., of Dexter, Holcomb of Lawrence, Kan.; Holcomb and of Fayetteville. Other survivors are: brother, Holcomb of Knoxville, Tenn; sisters, Johnson of Springdale, Ark. and Holcomb of Sherwood, Ark. and several nieces and nephews.
