Herbert O. Lowe, 55, an employee of John Morrell & Co. For nearly 40 years, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ottumwa Hospital following a two-week illness. His home is at 425 Minnesota Street. The son of Y.O. and Jane Beard Lowe, he was born November 15, 1903, in Ottumwa. He was in the pork cut department at the Morrell plant and sang with the Morrell male chorus for 20 years. He was a member of Local No. 1, UPWA, CIO, and of the Church of the Brethren. He married Elda Roberts on July 4, 1925, in Ottumwa. Besides his wife, survivors include two brothers, Lambert Lowe, Ottumwa, and John Lowe, Omaha; a stepbrother, Clyde Harty, Alliance, Neb.; and three sisters, Mrs. Ada Spillman, Queen City, Mo.; Mrs. Maude Spears and Mrs. Blanche Mooney, both of Ottumwa. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Walter and Russell, and two sisters, Helen and Bernice. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Brethren, conducted by the Rev. R.E. Pepple, pastor. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. "Lowe Services," From "Ottumwa Courier," October 2, 1959: Funeral services for Herbert O. Lowe, 55, of 425 Minnesota Street, who died at Ottumwa Hospital Wednesday, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Brethren. The Rev. R.E. Pepple, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The body will be at the Johnson Funeral Chapel until 11:30 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the church. Pallbearers will be Leonard Link, Walter T. Hall, Bob Knox, Jack Carr, Orville Buckingham, and Clarence Dicks.
