Petersen Funeral Services Held Thursday at the Nysted Church ----- The last rites for Herbert P. Petersen, former Nysted young man whose untimely death occurred while he was swimming in Lake Michigan a week ago Sunday, were held here Thursday. Brief services were first held at the home of a brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Lauritsen, east of Dannebrog and services were then held at the Nysted Lutheran Church. The Rev L. C. Hansen of Dannebrog was the officiating pastor. Prof Arlid Olsen, who was president of Grand View College, Des Moines, Iowa when young Petersen attended that school, also spoke. Burial was made at the Nysted Cemetery. At Chicago, before the body was sent to Dannebrog, there was a touching tribute to the memory of Herbert Petersen. One that was of great comfort to the bereaved mother, when a group of young friends gathered at the funeral home for a brief service. Those attending were former Grand View College chums who now reside in Chicago. Obituary Herbert P Petersen was born August 25, 1916, at Nysted, Nebraska. The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludvig Petersen, Herbert, attended the elementary school in Nysted and was graduated from the Dannebrog High School in 1933. During the collegiate year 1934-1935, he attended Grand View College, Des Moines, Iowa. During the last three years, Mr. Petersen has resided in Chicago, working as a drug clerk. Sunday afternoon, August 7, 1938, Mr. Petersen went swimming at Montrose Beach, Lake Michigan, with a friend from Chicago, Mr. Edward Vogt. They walked out along the rocks looking for another friend; here Mr. Petersen slipped and injured his toe. The injury was not serious, however, from the point in the harbor Mr. Petersen and Mr. Vogt decided to swim back. Ten yards from shore Mr. Petersen succumbed. His body was not recovered until the following morning. Mr. Petersen is survived by his mother, Mrs. Katherine Petersen, a brother , Roland Petersen, and two sisters, Mrs. Paul Baadsgaard and Mrs. W.
