Read More	Ludvig Petersen Taken By Death Died Sunday Afternoon at Five O'clock; Services Held Wednesday at Nysted ----- A lifetime of nearly seventy years, forty-five years of which he had been an invalid, came to a close for Ludvig Petersen, Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Mr. Petersen was taken ill with liver troubles about a month ago. He seemed to improve somewhat for a time, but due to the heat and his other infirmities, he contracted bronchial pneumonia, which was the direct cause of death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Nysted Lutheran Church, with the Rev. C. P. Hojbjerg officiating. Interment was made in the Nysted Cemetery. Obituary Ludvig Petersen was born at Kjelderneas, Lolland, Denmark, December 18, 1884, and died at his home in Nysted, July 15, 1934, at the age of 69 years, six months and 27 days. Mr. Petersen came to America with his parents in 1879 and landed at Racine, Wisconsin, remaining there for a period of five years, then moving to Dannebrog. After spending two years here he moved on to Akron, Colorado, where he took up a homestead. On June the 17th, 1887, he was married to Kathrine Petersen and they made their home in Colorado until the following spring. During this time Mr. Petersen was stricken with rheumatism. They moved to Nebraska, believing that a change of climate would improve his condition. However, no cure was available, thus leaving him an invalid for the last forty-five years of his life. In the spring of 1893 he purchased a store at Nysted and was engaged in business for a period of nineteen years. While in business, here, he had charge of the Nysted Post Office. Despite his physical condition, Mr. Petersen managed to conduct his business and provide for his family. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two daughters, Mrs. W. F. Lauritsen of Dannebrog, Mrs. Paul Baadsgaard, of Minneapolis; two sons, Roland of Dannebrog and Herbert at home; and five grandchildren. Three sisters survive him, Mrs. C. Paulsen, Mrs. H. C. Paulsen of Wisconsin and Mrs. C. A. Nielsen of Omaha. Mr. Petersen was a good husband and father. ----- A Tribute Ludvig Petersen has passed away from our midst, and we who knew him will miss him. It was a treat to come to his home and talk with him for he was well posted, practically on all subjects. Reading was naturally his choice, and I dare say, that we would have to go a long way before we would find a man that had read more book and periodicals, both in the Danish or American language, and how he could remember what he read. He was always in sympathy with the less fortunate ones. He carried his own cross with a wonderful spirit, seldom did he complain and his life should be an inspiration to us. He has proved to the world what a man can do (physically handicapped) when he has the will to keep plugging away. Petersen could be humorous, always trying to see the humorous side as well as the serious. Yes, he was a very intelligent man, interesting in music, singing, reading and discussing the problems that confront us, both in religion and politics. But, it would be impossible for me to think of Petersen and not at the same time think of his faithful wife, who in all the those years had gladly taken care of Petersen and always with a smile. As long as I live I hope the memory of this couple stays with me. If one half of all homes in America were like this home, America would soon change to become a nation where its citizens were highly educated in the real sense of the word.
