Description	:	Johan Gerhard "George" and Mary Hummerdorf Siemer Alering along with their children were among the early pioneers as they came to Edwards County in 1879. In 1849, Maria Hummerdorf was born. She came to America by herself at the age of 18. She made her way to Cincinnati, Ohio which is where many of the original settlers from the Windthorst area were gathered. It was there where Maria married John Henry Siemer in 1861. Read More	Johan Gerhard "George" and Mary Hummerdorf Siemer Alering along with their children were among the early pioneers as they came to Edwards County in 1879. In 1849, Maria Hummerdorf was born. She came to America by herself at the age of 18. She made her way to Cincinnati, Ohio which is where many of the original settlers from the Windthorst area were gathered. It was there where Maria married John Henry Siemer in 1861. Five children were born to the couple but only two survived infancy. After nine years of marriage, John died leaving Maria with two small children. Anna, age five, and J. George age two. Johann Gerhard "George" Alering was also born in Germany in 1845. He emigrated to America in his early twenties and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. George Alering married Mary Seimer on June 29, 1875. He raised Anna and J. George as his own. An additional daughter and two sons were born to the couple. In 1879, George brought his wife, Mary, step-children, and to Trenton Township, Edwards County, Kansas. By all accounts, George and his family were successful farmers. Mary's daughter and George's step-daughter, Anna, married Nickolas Schmitt in 1884. The two met when her stepfather offered the foundation rock on his property to help with the building of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. George, Anna's brother, never married. He assisted many of the farmers with threshing machines. Later, he moved into Kinsley and operated a chicken, egg, and cream business. George also operated a successful beekeeping business. He died in 1953 and is buried in St. Nicholas Cemetery. A double wedding ceremony was held on June 5, 1912. Mary married Harry Torline and their son John Henry married Theresa Schinstock. The Torline's had three children. John Henry and Theresa had three children. They are buried in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Kinsley. George and Maria's son, Herman, passed away in 1901 from pneumonia. He was 20 years old. Maria C. Seimer Alering passed away in 1909. Johann Gerhad "George" Alering died five years later in 1914. They are all buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Windthorst, Ford County.
